Diapers?? Feedback Needed!

I need some opinions.  Do/did you do cloth or disposable diapers?  Either way, I would love to hear your thoughts on which one works best, what you would suggest, or pros and cons.  Thank you!

cloth because you can give them to me to clean whiteboards with when your baby can control his/her bowel movements.

I don't know anything about this whole process, but cloth have always sounded nice because they keep a lot of plastic out of landfills, which equates to less trash we leave your baby do have to deal with one day.

On the other side, turds are nasty.

wow Ang....Thank you for that perspective. I will definitely think about your whiteboards when I make my final decision.

I use disposables for Kate but I researched cloth diapers about 2 months ago and I think if I had it to do over I would have used Bum Genius 3.0 cloth diapers. They are definitely an investment up front and then you have to wash them A TON (2 cycles every time) and use special detergent. But I think the enviromental benefits and the fact that they are so good for baby's skin could be worth it.

I would recommend using disposables for the first month though, just until you get the hang of being a new mom and your body has time to recover.

That's my 2 cents:) I would be happy to give you more info on the cloth if you want....I read up alot:)

Ashley- I wish I had some expert advise to share in this area, but I don't. Joe & I just decided that for our particular family, and given the extra investment of time cloth diapers would require, we quickly and easily have gone with disposables. I've been very happy to not have to wash their diapers! Adjusting to a new baby takes a good amount of time and we tried to simplify life as best we could, including this area. And we've found a great brand of diapers that hasn't cost nearly as much as we would have thought (and we still have two in diapers right now). If we had to do it over, I'd still do the same :) But, that is just our family! And I've admired three different friends who have done clothe diapers, and gladly spend a little extra time to put their babies in clothe diapers. They LOVE it (its hard for me to imagine, but they do!!). I can pass their names along to you if you'd like. I'm sure they would be happy to share what they've learned. And I'm confident God will give you all specific wisdom for your family!! Does Aaron have a preference? If so, maybe that's a good starting place for you...

BTW, can't wait til you find out if you are having a boy or girl!!

cloth, I wish everyday that I had done that...but I will say make sure get the adjustable one size ones from Bum Genius. It will cost you initially but save you THOUSANDS in the long run.
From here on out my future children will be cloth.

Hey, this is Rachel H. who just added you on Facebook. We do the cloth diapers, and I highly recommend it.

I'm going to go against everyone else, though and say to skip the Bumgenius diapers. They wear out so quickly! They're supposed to last you until potty training, but they definitely don't.

We mostly use prefolds with the Prowraps covers, although a lot of people like the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap (BSWW). Oh, and we use Snappis instead of pins. I was SO afraid I would poke Rebecca with pins, since I'm a huge klutz.

The prefolds are easier for us, because they're less hassle to wash, even if they take an extra 30 seconds to put on. Plus the initial investment is much lower. But it really depends on what works best for your family.

They can get a little extreme (on both sides) but the Mothering magazine discussion forums are a really good resource for cloth diapering.

You can also feel free to get in touch with me. Hopefully I'm not being too weird, it's just that I hardly know anyone my age who has kids, so I'm excited. =)
