Kitty Advice Needed

Speckles, the used to be stray cat, is now an inside cat. She is doing very well with going in and out of the house instead of using a litter box. I guess she learned that from watching Abby. We are having an issue with her trying to jump up on counters. Kitchen and bathroom. With Abby I have always used a water bottle to squirt her when she would do something like that and she learns pretty quickly not to do it again. With Speck its been completely different though. The other day when she jumped up on the counter for the first time, I poured pretty much a whole glass of water on her (couldn't find the squirt bottle.) and she just rolled in it and purred and licked it up. How do you punish/teach a cat that likes water? Do any of you have any ideas of how we can train her? Also, I would love any Vet recommendations of where I should bring her to get her fixed now that she is "coming of age" ;-]

Bobby hasn't started jumping on counters/tables yet thank goodness. We really haven't had to discipline him. If he starts doing something bad, Russ just raises his voice and says BOBBY and Bobby stops. He's kind of jumpy to loud noises so that's all it takes for him to stop. Last night he got in the closet and stuck his head in a plastic bag and then he came running out with this bag on his head and he couldn't get it out. And he was running from the noise the bag was making but he couldn't get it off. It was hilarious. After he got if off, he hid under the couch for a good hour.

Well, I don't know what we are going to do about Asher!! Not only does he jump on the counter, but he steals bread or food in plastic bags. He loved to steal the Christmas cookies given to us during Christmas. The problem is that he is really smart. he won't get up there if we are around. We hear him running with the goodies and hiding under the bed or behind the couch! We found a bag of napkins under the couch not too long ago. I don't think he was happy with his selection that day. He never has really gotten into anything he grabs. We put him in the garage after banging on the counter and screaming NO!!

The other problem with him is that he likes to urinate upstairs in the movie room. We don't know why he does it, but we've found it on the blankets and the floor. Needless to say, he's been an outdoor kitty the last few days. I don't know what we're gonna do.

getting a cat fixed? i highly recommend using the Humane Society. it is much cheaper than a vet...drop them off in the morning and pick them up that afternoon.

did you find your squirt bottle? the cat may not like the direct sting of a squirt...or maybe something with a loud noise. i know our cat doesn't like the rattle of a plastic bag. i think you just have to try the things that bother them the most.

have fun!
